Last week I found a Couch to 5K (C25K) program online. I had started to feel that I was trying to do too much, too soon. I guess that I had been driven by pride, trying to get back to those days of running miles at a time. I had to finally breakdown and admit to myself that I was just overdoing it. My body was hurting and it just wasn't too much fun. It was actually quite the opposite... depressing. I thought that I should be able to run miles at a time in no time flat... since I have run a couple marathons. It just doesn't work that way.
I asked my daughter if she wanted to do the C25K with me. Then I asked my 9 year-old son. My 4 year-old also wanted to join in. So, I had my crew and they wanted to join in. My husband also decided that he would like to give it a try. My sister has a bad knee, so she stays home with my baby.
The plan for running is quite easy, and it is nothing I have done before. I have never done a walk/run plan. It seems to be working for all of us. I don't feel like I am doing more than I should. I am enjoying the time with my family. I enjoy being able to share my love of running with them. My daughter started to show an interest in running with me right before I found out I was pregnant with my baby. We had gone out running a couple times before that. I would let her lead the way, she would pace the run.
I am so excited to be doing this with the children and my husband. I hope that someday they will be running the long distances with me. It takes a lot of time and a lot of training, but I would love to have someone running a half-marathon or a marathon with me. Someone that I can talk to and have motivate me to keep going. I believe it would go a lot faster with someone beside me.
We are currently in the second week of our nine week program. I will keep updates on here.

Baby's First Baby Food (Mar 30, 2012)
My daughter who will be 6 months old on Apr 5 had her first baby food on Friday. She had eaten little bites of Rice Krispies here and there and bites of other things, but no baby food. I bought her a jar of baby squash. I remembered that my other children liked squash, so I thought that would be a safe one to start with. Her older sister had been wanting to feed her, so I allowed her to give the first few bites. Her first bites of baby food were on Mar 30, 2012.
Feeding a baby isn't easy though. They don't chew and swallow... they roll it around in their mouths, swallow some, spit a lot back out. My older daughter was having a hard time understanding what to do with the regurgitated food.
She gave up trying to feed her little sister after a little while. She did a good job. I don't know if it might have made her stomach turn every time her sister would spit food out. My daughter handed me the spoon and jar and told me I could feed her. I fed her few a couple seconds until my 4 year-old decided he wanted to help out.
He fed her for a few minutes and then decided he would like to be the photographer. He took some pictures and then she decided she was done eating. She liked her food.
When she was done eating, I wiped her face with the bib and she was nice and clean. I will be getting her more squash soon!

My 9 Year-old Son
My son turned 9 years-old on March 17. His favorite color is green... when asked why, it seems almost like we should have known... he was born on St. Patrick's Day! That is his reason and it makes perfect sense to me. :)
My brother and my father arrived here on Mar 16, surprised my children (my husband didn't know my dad was coming) and stayed until Sunday the 25th. I didn't get to blog on his birthday, between working and hanging out, I didn't take the time out from the day. I haven't taken the time out for quite a while, in fact, but I will do better.
For his birthday, he wanted to go to the Red Robin. We obliged. I love their French fries, with their fry sauce and seasoning. Red Robin is a burger restaurant with bottomless steak fries. They are delicious! He wanted a Costco chocolate cake for his birthday. These are giant cakes... 7 lbs,. but the most delicious chocolate cake I've ever had. I had a few slices of it... with ice cream.
The only thing he wanted for his birthday was "Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story" for his DS... or something like that. I got it for him. He was so excited... he played it for a while. His little brother wasn't amused that he had to wait to play. I explained that it was a gift, and he had to let him play.
We were going to see "The Lorax," but decided to wait until my older brother got here the following week. We saw it this past Saturday. The kids all liked it a lot.
He had a good birthday. We are going to have a joint birthday party for him and his sister with their friends. We did that last year and it turned out well. We just have to narrow down what they want to do. We went to a movie last year the weekend before we moved out here.
I can't believe I have a 9 year-old. He is one amazing fellow! I am so thankful that I am his mom. He is willing to help out however it is needed. He doesn't give me a hard time. He loves getting to hold his baby sister and he enjoys playing with my two middle children. He is a wonderful son and big brother to all of the children.

Go Bonnies!
I am so excited. There are two NCAA basketball teams I always root for. The BYU Cougars and the St Bonaventure Bonnies. The Cougars have made the NCAA tourney several times, the SBU Bonnies, not quite so much. This is actually only the second time that I can remember. The first time was in 2000. That was an exciting time in my hometown.
Today, the Bonnies made it into the tournament again. They had to win a few games to get there, they won the A-10 Championship game which gave them an automatic entry. I had to leave for church when there was a little more than 5 minutes left in the game. They were ahead by 6, but that isn't a big lead by any means. It was a nationally televised game. They played Xavier. They ended up winning 67 to 56. I can imagine the joy they must have felt. I can imagine the excitement at my parents' house! I would have loved to have seen both.
It is going to be hard to be in Utah during the tournament. It is always an exciting time at my parents' house. I am going to have to have a party, of some sort. Seeing how I will be the only one home, with my two youngest children, it will be an interesting party. Perhaps, it will consist of McNuggets :) We shall see!
So, let's go Bonnies and beat Florida State :)

Four Children
I can't imagine my life without my little ones. It is hard for me to believe that my oldest son will be 9 in less than 2 weeks, and my youngest is 5 months old. There was a time when I didn't know if I would ever be blessed with children. It was something I always wanted, I wanted to be a mommy. When I gave birth, it was like I was meeting one of my best friends. When I would hold them, it was magical. The bonding would begin immediately. I loved them before I ever held them. I loved them as soon as I found out I was going to have them.
They make me laugh, they make me smile, they make me think. My life is complete. Life is amazing with the little ones. Yes, some of them aren't so little anymore, but I still call them my little ones.
We have been able to walk home from school the past couple of days. It is wonderful to have that time to spend as we walk. They like taking turns pushing the baby in the stroller. When my 4 year-old's turn rolls around, the walk gets much slower. The stroller handle is higher than he is tall. We probably walk twice as far as we would have to, since the stroller begins weaving down the sidewalk. I can't take away that privilege of pushing his little sister though, he loves it so much! He loves everything about her, all of the children do.
I have had people say to me that they couldn't imagine having 4 children. I can't imagine not having 4 children. Each one is such a blessing. Not one of them is the same. They have their own personalities, their own sense of humor, their own smile, their own character traits. They enjoy different things. There is never a dull moment, and I hope to keep it that way!
To my four little ones... I love each of you! I want you to know how blessed I am to be your mother. I am so thankful for all you do, for the happiness you bring me.

Nine Days Later
My youngest sister and her son came to visit us, they arrived here on Feb 17, they are headed home today. This is one of the few times that I wish that time didn't go fast. Most of my life, time has not flown by as quickly as when I am with my family. I wish time would be much slower then.
I was so excited on Feb. 17 to go and get my sister and nephew from the airport. When the time came, I got my daughters and my sister and together and we headed to my minivan to go and get them. They arrived at the gate while we were still traveling down. We were a few minutes away. They had to get some baggage so we waited in the cell phone waiting area for a little while. Then we proceeded to the pick-up area. I saw them in the rear view mirror, so I grabbed my baby out of her carseat and met them at the back of the van. I let her hold the baby while I put the luggage in. We kissed each other and jumped in the van and headed home.
We made a pitstop at Arby's before arriving home. We had to park pretty far away so my sister dropped us off at the door and then parked. We all left our phones in the car, so I went back out and got them. We sat around and talked for a while before we headed to bed. It had been a long day for them. They look wonderful!
While they were here, we enjoyed our time together. We went out to eat, we got frozen custard, we saw old friends, we hung out and watched television. We went to Antelope Island (which should be Bison Island, in my opinion). My nephew enjoyed going to the gym with my husband. It was wonderful to just be together again. I tried to talk her into moving here, but I am not sure it worked out. We shall see. I hope and pray that their house sells soon.
To my sister and my nephew, thank you for coming to see us! I hope you had as much fun here as I had having you here. I wish you could have been here longer but I am thankful for the time you were here. I miss you both already! Love you!

The Dance
Last night I went to a Sweetheart Dance with the love of my life. The theme was "The Best is Yet to Come." The dance was held at one of our church's stake centers. While we were dancing, he asked me how long it had been since we had been to a dance together. It took me a while to come up with the answer... but it was a New Years Eve party in California put on by the Levine family. It was to ring in 2002, so it had been 10 years. We have danced together since then, but just in the house.
It was nice to get dressed up. I haven't been dressed up in a while. My sister let me borrow a dress and a pair of shoes. They were 4 inch heels. I should have known better than wear those to a dance, but they were just so cute. My toes have recovered today, but last night they were really hurting. Most of the music was from the 50s. Considering that there were many people at the dance from that era, it was appropriate.
My husband and I got some refreshments and sat at a table with some elderly couples. As I sat there, I was thinking that they must have been married for at least 50-60 years. I guess I was probably thinking that because it was my parents' 45th anniversary. Finally, one of the women introduced herself. Her name is Carol. When we introduced ourselves, she said she knew someone in Illinois with our last name. Then she was dragged out to the dance floor by her adoring husband. When she came back, she told us his name, and of course, we didn't know him. She went on to tell us that she was in our Church ward until she got married.... 4 months ago! I said, "Oh, you're a newlywed." She smiled and said, "Yes," with a very big grin. I told her congratulations. Here she was, with the whitest hair you can imagine, and probably well in to her 70s, and enjoying her newlywed life.
While my husband and I were enjoying our last dance together, I leaned over and whispered in his ear that you can tell they were newlyweds. They were dancing closely, and he had his hand in hers, and it was on his toosh. It made me laugh... and remember how it is to be a newlywed!
My sister was kind enough to watch my little ones. I told her we wouldn't be gone much more than an hour. We stayed for an hour then stopped and grabbed a couple things at Target and headed home. It was a wonderful evening out with him. My daughter enjoyed some milk that I left her for her. I guess I should start stocking up on some more in the freezer, since it was the last bag of mommy milk.
